Can you recommend a place to stay in San Jose?
Often, due to flight schedules, you’ll need to stay over in San Jose on
your way down to, or back from our house. We often refer our client to
Tico Travel (www.ticotravel.com)
who specializes in travel to Costa Rica for the last 17 years and can
help you plan your entire stay in Costa Rica and even offer you discount
airfare.
Is the beach in front of the house ever crowded?
Never! It is a glorious spot to relax; swim in warm, tropical waters;
pick up shells; play in waves; watch hermit crabs; spot whales and
dolphins; gaze at pelicans; gape at sunrises; stroll under palm trees;
explore tide pools. We’ve even had the thrill of seeing baby turtles
hatch out there and scramble into the ocean! Ours is one of a string of
beaches in the immediate area that are among the most beautiful in Costa
Rica.
How far in advance should I reserve?
To insure you get the exact dates you want, you should book the
Christmas/New Year's, Easter/Spring Break and even Thanksgiving weeks
many months or even a year in advance. Other times, it is advisable to
make reservations at least 3 months in advance from Christmas to August.
Late August through mid-December there is usually more flexibility, but
if you are locked into a schedule it is always good to reserve as far in
advance as possible. However, never hesitate to inquire about
availability at any time!
Does the local store have enough stock and variety of groceries
for supplies for the week?
The local store carries all the basics, like bread, eggs, milk
products, some basic veggies, drinks, beer, some canned goods, personal
products, etc.
You can usually get fresh fish by asking there as well. I often times
take snack foods like chips, and other things I want to eat when there,
but if you take nothing you will be fine too.
You mention catering. Can you explain?
There is a local couple that does catering and will deliver
food right to your house. They are just down the street about 100 yards,
so it is easy for them and they are very good. They are a husband/wife
team who are both chefs. In order to quote a price, they would need to
know how many people and what you would like, but normally you can just
arrange that when you get there and they are easy to deal with. The menu
varies day to day depending on what is available.
Are there any restaurants or other food sources?
Yes. There are several good restaurants walking distance to the
house. The places in Drake are all small, but the food is excellent.
There is a small restaurant about 100 yards from the house which has
great breakfast, lunch, and dinner at very reasonable prices. A little
further up the road is the JadeMar hotel and restaurant where they have
a big menu and everything is good. For finer dining, you can dine at
Aguila De Osa Resort and Lodge at the far end of the beach. You need a
reservation for there, but it is worth it.
Is the water in the house safe to drink?
We recommend that you only drink bottled water at the house.
What airport is nearby where the taxi to the house is $10 per person?
The airport is just called the Drake Bay airport. It is the
only airport there. You can see fares and schedules on the web sites for
either Sansa or Nature Air, both of which are local airlines with daily
flights. Most people arrive by air.
Are the local residents accepting of visitors from away?
Very much so. It is one of the friendliest towns in Costa Rica.
They get a lot of eco-adventure seekers, whale watches, park goers, and
people who just want to relax. All of the locals are accepting and
helpful to visitors. It’s one of the nice things about Drake.
Do you know where we can rent kayaks?
There is a hotel called Rancho Corcovado on the same beach as
the house, about 100 yards up the beach from the house where they have
one and two man kayaks for rent. There is also a beautiful jungle
stream/river nearby that is the most beautiful kayaking you can imagine,
with walls of rainforest on both sides of you.

up?

large open loft with three beds and a half bath. There is also a large
outside shower.

beaches and to isla cano are also by water taxi. You can walk to most

On a map, it is called "Agujitas". We are just down the beach

I don't have a sense of where the house is located. How long does it
take to walk to the waterfront?
The house is direct beachfront, right above the beach, with a
back terrace that has a perfect view of the beach. The house is above
the beach by about 3-4 stories, and you can easily walk to the beach on
the road or down the trail on the property.
Is there road access?
Yes, in the summer. Dec-June.

Downstairs is one bedroom with a queen
bed, and upstairs is an open loft with three beds in it (Queen, queen,
and double).
Do you have WIFI or hard line internet service?
We do not, but there are a couple of internet cafes nearby.
Is the place secured with bars over windows & a safe for valuables?
The house has wood doors and glass
windows, and it locks up. We have never put bars on the house because we
have never had a problem. There is a home safe for guests to leave
valuables in. The house is located in a very safe area.
How far to surf from house?
There is a little known and highly
regarded surf break at Rio Claro. It is a magical spot at the mouth of a
clear water river, located between the town of drake and Corcovado
National Park. Most people get there by boat and there are plenty of
boats available. We usually use the boats from the nearby hotel, Rancho
Corcovado.
